Sea Service
Review service records and prepare signed sea-service testimonials.
Understanding Service Types
Time onboard, time at sea and watchkeeping are related but different measures. Review the service classification before using a record as certification evidence.
- Sea Service or time onboard describes the relevant period serving aboard the vessel.
- Actual Sea Service identifies service at sea rather than all time onboard.
- Stand-by Service and Yard Time distinguish other operating circumstances.
- The totals needed for a particular qualification may differ from the overall time-onboard total.
Who Can Use It
Reviewing Your Service
Open Sea Service
Open the Sea Service page. If you have a crew selector, check whose record is selected.
Check the period
Review the relevant dates and service totals rather than relying on an overall lifetime figure.
Inspect the entries
Compare daily classifications with the vessel's actual operations and your time aboard.
Watchkeeping Evidence
Watchkeeping service is distinct from simply being aboard or being on passage. Check that the record reflects duties actually performed.
- Bridge watchkeeping relates to relevant navigation watch duties.
- Engineering watchkeeping relates to relevant engine-room watch duties.
- Review the applicable watchkeeping details in the testimonial rather than assuming every day at sea qualifies as watchkeeping.
